Introduction to Digital Story 2
1) What is your Topic:
My topic is going to be about the trip to the Japanese Spring Festival in NYC. It will focus on cultural awareness.
2) What is the time period of story:
The trip took place during the day of 4/9/10.
3)List the major points, facts, events, people, and/or ideas of your story:
Some things I learned about and learned how to do include:
Calligraphy, Japanese Naginata, origami, bon odori dancing and many more. We learned a little of each thing while navigating around the gym of the high school to different booths all with a different Japanese custom to offer. We were grouped with students from other schools; all teenagers. Together we were able to learn and have fun at the same time.
4)Why do you feel this story is important to tell?
This story is important to tell because it relates a lot to culture and being culturally aware. At this trip I learned a lot more about the Japanese culture and customs than I already did. I think that many people interested in different cultures or even the Japanese culture itself would very much enjoy this trip. This story can be very informative.
5) What are some challenges of telling this story? (hard to find information, personal, etc)
The only challenges of telling this story would probably be telling the exact information of the people I was with. We had only met that one time and we didn't exchange any personal information really except our names.
6) List some images that come to mind when you think about this story?
Some images that come to mind when I think of this story are the gym we were in with all the booths still set up exactly how they were. The Naginata section was in the corner spread out because it includes the use of large sticks. Next to it was the bon odori dancing which stood out becuse the straw "hats" had bright red flowers on them. The hip hop dancing was in the front, and the other two corners had the Japanese tea ceremony, and the Japanese attire. People were able to actually dress in a kimono/dress that you would wear in Japan. I picture the gym set up exactly this way when I think back on the trip. 7) How does your project relate to our CSI Graduate Portfolio?
This project relates to the CSI Graduate Portfolio because one of the skills you may achieve is cultural awareness. This trip is extremely informative on Japan and its customs and culture. I personally feel that this year I have achieved this skill.
